Getting Started

To rename a workspace, double-click the name of the workspace in the list of workspaces on the left side panel. Enter the new name and press return on the keyboard to confirm the name change.

To view only favorites: Click the Filter button on the top left and select 'Favorites only' from the dropdown menu.
Screenshots can be disabled by unchecking "Screenshots" in the General tab in the Preferences Window. You can access preferences from the menu bar: SpaceKeep → Preferences…

App Compatibility

There are a small number of apps that are not compatible with SpaceKeep:
  • Windowless apps - These don't have position or placement to save
  • Apps with incompatible APIs - Some use non-native macOS APIs
We continue to work on adding compatibility for more apps. If there's an app you'd like to see supported, please contact our support team! 🙂
SpaceKeep currently supports the following browsers:
  • Safari
  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Firefox
  • Brave
  • Opera
  • Vivaldi
If there's another browser you'd like to see supported, let us know by contacting our support! 🙂
Make sure you have enabled tab restoration in your browser's settings before saving a workspace:
  • Safari: No option needed
  • Chrome: Settings → On startup → Continue where you left off
  • Edge: Settings → Start, home, and new tabs → When Edge starts → Open tabs from the previous session
  • Firefox: Settings → General → Startup → ☑️ Open previous windows and tabs
  • Brave: Settings → Get started → On startup → Continue where you left off
  • Opera: Settings → On startup → Retain tabs from previous session
  • Vivaldi: Settings → General → STARTUP → Startup with → Last Session
Note: If your browser supports profiles/accounts, make sure the setting is enabled for each profile you use with SpaceKeep.

Troubleshooting

When making changes to an application window's placement or document position, it may take 15-20 seconds for that change to be registered by the operating system. This timing is usually fast enough to be caught before SpaceKeep saves the workspace.

This is a limitation of macOS itself, not something SpaceKeep has direct control over. For best results, wait a moment after repositioning windows before saving your workspace.
Some apps use non-native macOS APIs that are incompatible with SpaceKeep's default positioning mechanism. We continue to work on adding better compatibility for more apps.

If you'd like to see better support for a specific app, please contact our support team! 🙂
When saving a workspace with the screenshot option enabled, the SpaceKeep window momentarily fades out so the screenshot can capture a clear view of your workspace without being obscured.

Note: When the screenshot option is disabled in preferences, the SpaceKeep window will not fade out during saving.
To restore a workspace, all apps included in the workspace need to be manually closed first - this is a macOS requirement.

SpaceKeep helps by automatically activating each app that needs to be closed sequentially. Please save any unsaved work, then safely close the apps. SpaceKeep will automatically reopen all apps once they've been closed.

The floating popup shows which apps still need to be closed before restoration can complete.
When you re-save a workspace and one of the previously included apps is not active/open, SpaceKeep will carry forward the last saved data for that app into the new snapshot.

You also have the option to remove the app from the workspace's next snapshot by unchecking it in the available apps table.
